The Kuwait Textile Arts Association will be launching its 16th Annual Exhibition on Tuesday, April 28, at 7-00 pm at the Abudl Aziz Husain Center in Mishrif, Block 4, road 59. Located beside Mishrif Cooperative Society. Exhibition is open to the public from April 29 through May 2. Over 150 articles made by the membership will be featured and judged at the Exhibition. These include Quilts, Fibre Arts pieces and woven Sadu articles.
Judges are as follows: Pauline Barnes, UK Quilters Guild, Shelby Alahoo, local Published Fiber Arts Expert, Sheikha Altaf AlSalem al Sabah, Sadu woven pieces expert. Each piece in an individual category is judged according to its construction and design. Criteria are rated from satisfactory to excellent and can include composition, originality, technique and visual impact. Each piece is rated overall and placed as first, second and honorable mention. Judges Comments pertaining to the submission is provided for each of the participants.
Awards for each category and best of show will be announced during the opening on April 28 at 6-30pm. The best in show prize is a sewing machine donation from Bernina International through Ms Mala Ramakrishnan, Classic Quilt and Quilting, Dubai.
A lecture by Pauline Barnes will be held on April 29 @6:30 Pm entitled ‘Designing for Stitch’ and the door prizes will be drawn for those attending. During the rest of the week all items will be on display for the public to view. Individual tours for schools and groups can be arranged for explanations of the work and tools used to make the items. A very special thank you to all our members who submitted their finished pieces. It is a great feeling of accomplishment to see one’s finished work.
I would also like to recognize the Exhibition committee members who have contributed their time and effort to ensure its success. Without them we could not have succeeded. They are as follows: Hanan Al Kazemi-Ministry of Cultural Affairs liaison, Quilt group member, Avril Baily- Treasurer, Maddi El isaawi-Photographer, Ranju Ghandi-Fibre Arts Coordinator, Anette Rasmussen-Quilt Group Coordinator, Shyamala Rao-Quilt Group Member and Public Relations, Web Page coordinator, Hayfa Al Mughni Quilt Group Member and librarian, Yan Liu-Quilt Group Member, Janet Vigeant-Quilt Group Member, Patricia Redding-Sadu Weaver ,Fibre Arts Member and Beit Al Sadu Liaison, Aisha Khalid- Quilt Group Member and Beit Al Sadu Liaison, Jane Wittstock, Quilt Group Member and Exhibition Entry Coordination.In addition to the specific duties these ladies rise to the occasion and do whatever is asked of them to make the Exhibition successful and do it with a smile and a can-do-attitude.Thank You all.
It is sincerely hoped that the public will come and enjoy these local works by these artists. Volunteers are available during viewing hours to answer questions and explain the work. Arrangements for individual schools and groups can be made by contacting me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In conclusion i would like to announce that the end of the year luncheon for all KTAA members will take place on May 13. All KTAA members and special guests are invited. More information will be available soon concerning the place and time.
